Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. announced on Oct. 17 a partnership with Team Dignitas, an internationally acclaimed esports team. Through the partnership, Buffalo Wild Wings is now the “official hangout” of Team Dignitas. The partnership comes with a Buffalo Wild Wings logo on the sleeves of Dignitas player jerseys, player appearances at restaurants, exclusive digital content, and branding on monthly Team Dignitas live streams on Twitch and Facebook.
This is Buffalo Wild Wings’ first team sponsorship deal. Bob Ruhland, the company’s Marketing Vice President started discussing a possible partnership since last year. He mentioned that their sponsorship of Eleague increased the number of esports fans attending Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants. They are hoping that with the appearance of Team Dignitas in restaurants will make last year’s viral reports vanish in which patrons said they were not able to watch Eleague broadcasts at their sports bars.
An all-day livestream was conducted by Dignitas streamer Elle “Elektrikk” Lokyer on October 18 from 10:30 a.m. EST to 7 p.m. EST marking the first “Buffalo Wild Wings Stream of the Month.” Team Dignitas and Buffalo Wild Wings will be presenting a 1v1 amateur League of Legends tournament at Twitchcon this weekend and will be hosting an online amateur tournament in a few months. The three-hour 1v1 Amateur Legends Tournament and Team Dignitas Showdown will take place at Twitchcon on Sunday, Oct. 22. Team Dignitas representatives will allow first 16 Twitchcon attendees who have reached level 30 in one of esports’ most popular games to sign up and participate. All tournament participants each receive a custom gift bag. Finalists will be competing against Team Dignitas players Terry “Big” Chuong and Adrian “Adrian” Ma. The winner takes home the most coveted grand prize package which consists of a $300 Buffalo Wild Wings gift card and merchandise from Team Dignitas.
Not only is Dignitas the first esports team acquired by a sports ownership group, it is also among the very few esports brands to have a streaming deal with Facebook, and among Mountain Dew’s first sponsored teams in esports. With the partnership, Team Dignitas fans and esports bettors can look forward to seeing them in the popular restaurant and will leave a good effect not just to Team Dignitas but the continuous growth of the esports world.
