Intel Extreme Masters XII Team Preview: Astralis And Cloud 9 - Tipify

As the next CS:GO Premier Tournament, the Intel Extreme Masters XII Oakland is nearing its opening week, all of the teams have been finalized. All 12 teams are locked into their groups as well. In the next 5 days, we will be going over a bit of each team’s’ history and their current players. 2 teams will be broken down a day until the tournament opens on November 16. IEM will be a two-esports contest as PUBG joins forces with CS:GO to turn the tournament into an action-packed event.

Astralis

Started as a player-owned team from Team SoloMid and Questionmark, the Danish members made the leap with the help of their manager, Frederik “realition” Byskov. This team made the move to launch the new team last year, 2016. You may think that Astralis is still a young team. In fact, they are. But their youth didn’t obstruct them from reaching their goals as they were able to finish and win their first Major tournament. After winning the Esports Championship Series 1, they have gone on to participate in different major tournaments. As of this writing, the team collected a total of $2,108,368 in winnings from various tournaments.

The Astralis roster competing in the Intel Extreme Masters Season 12 features the following players:

  • Nicolai Reedtz/dev1ce
  • Peter Rothmann/dupreeh
  • Andres Hojsleth/Xyp9x
  • Marjus Kjaerbye/Kjaerbye
  • Lukas Rossander/gla1ve

Cloud9

Team owner and general manager, Jack Etienne, fielded his first team to League of Legends and qualified for the LCS in its first time, giving Etienne the urge to grow his team even further into several esports like Hearthstone, DotA 2, and Overwatch. C9’s CS:GO history started after acquiring compLexity Gaming’s team with the roster. But as they progressed into the season, the management dropped 3 of the original members, leaving only n0thing and shroud from the original team. Although, as the American team struggled in the PGL Major Krakow 2017–in which they exited early–both n0thing and shroud were replaced by a new leader, tarik and RUSH. Cloud9 is a veteran team with a lot of history. With that, they’ve won first place in major and minor tournaments. C9 has won a total of $1,285,240 since they played in competitive CS:GO games.

The Cloud9 roster competing in the Intel Extreme Masters Season 12 features the following players:

  • Tyler Latham/Skadoodle
  • Jake Yip/ Stewie2k
  • Timothy Ta/ autimatic
  • Will Wiezerba/ RUSH
  • Tarik Celik/ tarik
