We’re inching closer to the end of the year and if you’re still thinking off a new year’s resolution for 2018, then we’ve got a good one for you. How about we give more support to our female gamers who want to compete professionally?
Small number of female gamers
Although right now, the number of women playing competitive esports matches is relatively small, and one cause for that is that there are only a few tournaments that can accommodate them in a year. The professional scene is still male-dominated in which female gamers are easily discouraged to continue playing. In fact, that is a tough pill to swallow, when you’re playing and having a good time, but then once the online players find out that you’re a female, they instantly blurt out insults that stereotypes women, which can be demoralizing. Nonetheless, imagine the mental toughness of the ladies of esports considering what they are going through.
That is one of the reasons women in esports is relatively small in number. If we were to change our attitude towards female gamers, then more will be inspired to play esports and can lead to more sponsors, competitive games, and more fans alike. Esports is for everyone to share.
For us, we had the opportunity to watch a couple of female-only CS:GO tournaments, and it showed us that the female players are as competitive as male-only matches. These players pull off the same amazing plays and every round are tense and these women are just as good as men. Overall, the ultimate dream is to see female players achieve the same level of competition and viewership as any other CS:GO tournament would receive.
Support women in gaming
To close this out, what can do to provide more support towards female gamers? Instead of flaming them with insults, we can motivate them by treating them fairly without having to stereotype. If we can also give them a chance, we’d see that they are also capable of playing on the same level and even find female gamers better than top male players out there.
There are a lot of female gamers who stream regularly on Twitch. Some might play competitively and some for entertainment. Regardless of that, they are gamers too, who share the same interest and passion we have for competitive gaming.
