Weekend Tournament Results: ELEAGUE, ESL One & OWL - Tipify

It appears that this weekend was tabbed as the most active day for esports across different games and it is true. We were given the opportunity to witness CS:GO’s ELEAGUE Major, Overwatch League, NA LCS, EU LCS, LCK, and Dota 2 ESL One: Genting. It’s only January, by the way, and there’s more to come for this calendar year.

Team From NA Region Wins Its First CS:GO Major

Cloud9 made history by becoming the first North American team to win a Valve and CS:GO Major tournament. Moreover, they defeated the world’s best CS:GO teams in the process. In the past years, C9 could not even get past the group stages in most tournaments, but now, they defeated G2 in the quarterfinal match, SK Gaming to enter the grand finals, and lastly, defeated heavy tournament favorite, FaZe in double overtime to win the ELEAGUE Major: Boston.

The International 7 Rematch

Switching things to Dota 2 in Malaysia, the ESL One Genting gave us the opportunity to relive TI7 as the event had Newbee and Team Liquid going against each other for the ESL One Championship along with the prize pool rewards. This time, Newbee got their revenge against current champion, Liquid with the match reaching its full length in a best-of-five series. The Chinese team cemented themselves as one of the top Dota 2 teams after this win.

Overwatch League Week 3 Results

We had 6 Overwatch matches over the weekend and here are the results:

  • Seoul ends winning streak against New York Excelsior, and it is NYE who continues their undefeated streak with the score 3-2.
  • Shanghai Dragons is the only remaining team without a win in the league as they lost to Philadelphia Fusion 2-3.
  • Dallas Fuel ends its losing streak against San Francisco Shock in a dominating fashion with the score, 3-0.
  • Although, Boston Uprising sends the Fuel back to earth after a win with the score, 3-2.
  • League favorite, Los Angeles Valiant continues its good performance after striding through Florida Mayhem, 3-1.
  • The final match of Week 3 earns Houston Outlaw a win after demolishing the Los Angeles Gladiators, 0-4.
