Virtus.Pro Secures First Spot In ESL One Birmingham 2018 - Tipify

Esports News – Fresh from winning several Dota 2 Majors, Russian-based Virtus.Pro is the first team to be directly invited to ESL One Birmingham 2018, the first ever Dota 2 Major tournament in the United Kingdom. The event takes place this May in Arena Birmingham.

The unbeatable is one of the unstoppable esports teams when it comes to both major and minor tournaments. They are the current defending champion of ESL since 2017. And just recently, they officially became the only team in Dota 2 Pro Circuit to have won three titles with two Majors. This unending victory shocked everyone since it was only months ago prior to the next tournament that won their first Major—a back-to-back win that even the team didn’t expect to happen.

Aside from the ESL One Birmingham 2018 invite, have also secured a spot in The International 2018 (TI8) due to their victory at the Bucharest Major. TI8 will be held in Vancouver, Canada from August 20th to 25th, sporting a new subterranean theme. The “King of Consistency”, as the fans call them, currently has 4,950 points in the Dota 2 Points Circuit—making them number one in the stand.

12 best esports teams in the world get the opportunity to grace the arena for the first ever Dota 2 Major Tournament in the UK. Teams will compete for the $1,000,000 prize pool and additional 1,500 DPC points for The International 2018 invitations. Virtus.Pro, of course, already holds the spot and the remaining teams will go head-to-head against them to secure another spot. Therefore, there are still eleven teams who have the opportunity to compete for money and victory.

The format of the competition is divided into three steps: The Qualifier and Invites, Group Stage, and Playoffs. There will be 6 direct invites from the organization based on the track record and previous standings of the teams, the remaining teams will be coming from the regional qualifiers. On the Group Stage that happens on May 23rd and 24th, the games will all be played backstage. The winners then take part in the Playoffs which will be held between May 25th and 27th in the Arena Birmingham with over 15,000 live audiences. All games follow a best of 3 format. A 3rd-place determiner match will be played on the last day of the tournament. And in the grand finals, the remaining teams will have to complete 5 games.
