Esports News – It was a wild ride for the 8 teams competing for StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5, but the all the hard work of Optic Gaming paid off as they conquered the ladder and emerge victorious against VGJ.Thunder in the grand finals last April 15.
The road to the Dota 2 grand finals went down with thrilling battles among the four remaining teams. VGJ.Thunder successfully defeated Vega Squadron, and Optic Gaming shutdown Fnatic’s defenses by shifting the balance of power in game two and three.
The advantage for the first game was in the hands of VGJ.Thunder since they were in charge of the first two matches in the best-of-three (BO3) series. Regardless, excellent communication, strategic rotations, and solid map controls kept the team together. In game one, Chinese player Jia Jun “Sylar” Liu and his Lycan decided to go mid lane in game one where he was able to rotate easily on top lane, leading his team ahead of the opponent. Meanwhile, the teams were surprised with the appearance of the offlane Underlord in both matches, but VGJ.Thunder put the surprise in good use and Vega Squadron struggled to utilize it effectively. In game two, Liu “Freeze” Chang used his Juggernaut to go for multiple solo kills and team fight control, and eventually led his team to victory.
The next match was between the winning team and Fnatic. In game one, Fnatic had the upper hand after achieving an early 25k net worth advantage over Optic Gaming, thanks to Saahil “Universe” Arora’s Pangolier. It was a poor start for Optic Gaming after losing several towers. Fortunately, In games two and three, Fnatic’s core was shut down while Quinn “CC&C” Callahan’s Lina helped Per Anders “Pajkatt” Olsson accumulate farm and control team fights. The last round emphasized Optic Gaming’s strategies and outed Fnatic early.
Grand finals recap
The final match is in BO5 format, lengthier and much more exciting to watch than the semi-finals matches. Optic Gaming started the game early with aggressive attacks and won the first round.
