ESL One Hamburg Returns With Changes & Improvements - Tipify

Esports NewsDotA 2 tournaments still hold the largest prize pools ever given in esports history, and the first in line is The International 7 which ended up reaching $24.6 million in total. A year won’t definitely last without a massive Electronic Sports League (ESL) tournament prepared. In this regard, ESL One Hamburg is returning for the fall this season.

To make sure that fans and professional players can catch up for the event, ESL organizers instantly announced their first major event before The International 8 and after the Pro Circuit 2017-2018 tournament. ESL One Hamburg will then be ready at the end of October.

Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President of Product at ESL, shared the organization’s vision for the upcoming event: “We are looking forward to bringing ESL One back to Hamburg after such a successful debut of our flagship event series last year. This year ESL One Hamburg is going to be even bigger and better, as we are expanding both: tournament days being held in the arena and the number of participating teams.”

Changes and improvements

No one can forget the iconic tournament between Virtus.Pro and Team Liquid that garnered trending memes online. But the last ESL One Hamburg was far from successful. The event was subjected to mixed reviews due to complaints regarding excessive ads, inappropriate stadium setup, and more unsatisfied expectations from home viewers and premium ticket holders.

This time around, ESL pledged to deliver a new and improved tournament to meet the demands of everyone. They have more time to prepare and improve their shortcomings. The event was now expanded to cater to a larger number of audience in the stadium, but the most notable improvements for this round include

  • From 8 to 16 teams competing
  • From 2 to 3 arena days
  • From 4 to 6 overall tournament days

ESL One Hamburg 2018 will take place on October 26 to 28 at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg. The group stage matches are set to transpire from 23 to 35. There is no announcement regarding the prize pool for the professional teams yet, but tickets are now on sale for the live audience.
