California Cup Erupts Shock And Valiant’s Overwatch Rivalry - Tipify

Esports News – While waiting for the new expansion teams and regions to finalize their rosters, the Overwatch League remains on hiatus. This offseason break will give way to the first regional esports rivalry in the league as the OWL’s Californian teams created the first-ever California Cup. It will pit together the Northern and Southern teams.

The event will serve as a determining tournament for the two rivalries of the inaugural season, headed by the Los Angeles Valiant and San Francisco Shock. The victor will take over the California Cup until next year. Brett Lautenbach, president of NRG Esports and the San Francisco Shock, explained how the California Cup introduces a new tradition to the esports community: “We love the concept of finally bringing our matches to our home market in the Bay Area. This is the first time an Overwatch League team is announcing a home market match outside of Los Angeles. What better way to kick this off than an incredible rivalry match between the Valiant and Shock.”

Schedule and activities

The Overwatch match plays host to the Shock, Valiant, and their fans. Attendees get the opportunity to meet the teams in autograph sessions while flaunting their cosplays and costumes. More than that, the organizers will showcase the new rosters for the teams and the participants of the amateur and collegiate Overwatch tournaments. The amateur tournament is entitled “California Collegiate Clash”, and it will see a 6v6 tournament between the representatives of each university.
