Astralis Wins IEM Chicago 2018, Dev1ce Secures MVP Award - Tipify

Esports News – Team Astralis ends IEM Chicago 2018 with a dramatic victory, beating down Team Liquid 3-0 in a one-sided grand final match. The two teams clashed to win the title, but Astralis consistently dominated the maps: Mirage (16-14), Nuke (16-7), and Inferno (16-4). Meanwhile, Astralis’ top player Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz bagged the MVP award by HLTV and Betway.

Tournament recap

Liquid’s map pick, Mirage, started the game. Astralis quickly led the early rounds by destroying Liquid’s retake from the CT spawn. Emil “Magisk” Reif got four kills on his tally. The third-run from the opposing team just fueled the flame for Astralis who lost only one round of the next eight rounds because of a 1v2 clutch by Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth. Even after losing, the team kept up their composure and successfully defused a clutch from Liquid’s Keith “NAF” Markovic in a 1v2 situation. Astralis outplayed their opponents and closed out the game with 16 victories.

The second map, Nuke, saw Astralis being undefeated once again. Xyp9x and Magisk overturned a 2v5 situation in the pistol round, overpowering Liquid’s overly-aggressive approach. Liquid tried to get a foothold when the score’s at 1-6, but Astralis tightened up their defenses to bring the deficit to three rounds. Astralis put Liquid at a disadvantage to increase their lead.

On the third map, Inferno, Astralis started out on the counter-terrorist side. Liquid took the pistol round and the following anti-ecos for a 3-0 lead, but Astralis didn’t let them score another round after that. Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander gave Liquid a hard time to operate in a one gun round, giving Astralis the chance to secure a massive 11-14 lead. Dev1ce further pushed his team to take the lead with great p250 kills in the second half pistol round whileLiquid attempted to respond with guns. Shortly after, Astralis claimed the 3-0 victory.
