Exclusive Interview: Rain Talks About Faze Clan - Tipify

Esports News – CSGO team Faze Clan is one of today’s most popular names competing in international tournaments and 2018 has been particularly good to their reputation. The team won three major tournaments between May and October: EPICENTER 2018, ESL One: Belo Horizonte 2018, and Intel Extreme Masters XIII-Sydney. They’re only a few wins away from making a mark in CSGO history, so let’s hear out the team’s current strategies and standings through their rifler, Håvard “rain” Nygaard.

Undefeated run

Faze Clan won all their matches prior to the IEM Chicago 2018’s semi-finals. Many believe that their impressive momentum was due to their victory at EPICENTER. Confirming this, rain said: “It’s really good, we’re finally getting our confidence back after a rough start to the season, and with everything else going on… but yeah, our confidence is slowly coming back…coming out of EPICENTER we knew we had our confidence back, and we knew we could play. Astralis wasn’t there, though, so we had to beat the big boss before we can say anything and now we beat.”

Team dynamics

Faze Clan doesn’t have a single strategy when it comes to gaming, they always adapt and evolve, depending on the opponent and the environment. But it’s Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, the team’s in-game leader, who actually plans their next move. With this, rain clarified: “NiKo prepares the matches, he says what we’re going to do at the start of the rounds, and then if he runs out of ideas or gets a bit lost karrigan jumps in to help out. He also helps NiKo a lot with the mid-round calls, so it’s a good combination for now.”

Issues with Karrigan

Finn “karrigan” Andersen, the team’s Rifler and AWper, is currently bombarded with questions after his latest interview during The BLAST. It seemed like the player is planning to leave the team soon. However, according to rain, “There’s nothing set in stone. We told karrigan we’re going to try this out, that he’s going to be our support and NiKo is going to try and call. We haven’t said anything about last events or anything like that. A newspaper in Denmark twisted his words and it came out as if BLAST could have been his last event with the team, but nothing is actually set in stone.”

Team Spirit

For their upcoming matches with some of the strongest CSGO teams, rain confidently stated that Faze Clan has a shot at the grand finals of their upcoming event. He said: “Yeah, of course, I definitely see us going all the way here in Chicago, but I don’t know… I think Astralis have something up their sleeve that they didn’t pull out during our match, and I think they’ll play a little bit differently if we play them later on. Also, Liquid is still in it and they’re always a tough opponent. We’ll see how it goes, but we do at least feel confident.”

Niko taking over the IGL role

Karrigan and Niko recently swapped their roles. Niko is now the in-game leader of the team, while Karrigan takes over two important roles in the roster. In addition to this, there are also hearsays that Niko and Robert “RobbaN” Dahlström, their coach, are closely working together. Clarifying the roles and the hierarchy, rain said: “Yeah, I think NiKo and RobbaN are working together. I know NiKo wants to do a lot of VOD watching himself, and he writes all of the stuff down. I do think they’re working together, though, but you know… I usually just sit in the background playing deathmatch. So yeah, it’s up them to figure out the matches.”
