MDL Macau 2019 Completes Line-Up With Evil Geniuses - Tipify

Esports NewsMDL Macau 2019 returns on February 20-24 as an offline, non-DPC event sponsored by Mars Media. A month prior to the opening, the event finalized its roster with North American team Evil Geniuses on board. The team will compete at the Galaxy Macau Arena in China alongside other top-tier Dota 2 teams PSG.LGD, Virtus.pro, Vici Gaming, Team Liquid, EHOME, Royal Never Give Up, and Invictus Gaming.

A clash of teams

All eight teams will compete for a share of the $300,000 prize pool and a slot for the the next MDL event. Three of the teams from China were winners of the qualifiers prior to the event—EHOME, RNG, and Invictus Gaming. The other five were directly invited by Mars Media. PSG.LGD and Virtus.pro were the first teams to confirm their slots, followed by Vici Gaming and Team Liquid.

The last spot was a surprise, but Evil Geniuses is considered as one of the strongest North American teams in the Dota 2 pro scene. In fact, the team is now on their way to compete for the Chongqing Major which starts in a few days with only have one short interval before the MDL Macau 2019 starts.

The Dota 2 tournament is set to culminate after the DreamLeague Season 11 Minor Qualifiers to fill the gap between the planned DPC events. According to the organizers, it’s surprising that the teams have agreed to compete despite its conflicting schedule following DreamLeague and ESL One Katowice LAN.

Evil Geniuses roster and standings

Evil Geniuses had an impressive Dota 2 run since 2014. Their records contains no achievements lower than 3rd place for Premier and Major tournaments. They recently finished 3rd at The International 2018, but bagged the titles at The Manila Masters, Mars Dota 2 League 2016, and The International 2015.

The world, however, has yet to see how they do this 2019—especially now that Rasmus “MISery” Filipsen and Clinton “Fear” Loomis left the team. Evil Geniuses now leaves 2019 to the hands of their current active roster:
