Esports News – The second season of the Overwatch League is on its way to introduce the eight new expansion teams and their veteran talents. But the newest faces from pioneering teams and the season 1 champions London Spitfire are also worth getting excited for. The first stage is set to kick off tomorrow and returns to the Blizzard Arena in Burbank, CA. With that, let’s take a look at the storylines of the competing teams.
Can London Spitfire find their balance with a new coach?
London Spitfire started as underdogs in the inaugural season, so no one really expected them to bag the title in the finals and pull off an upset. Mid-season, they parted ways with their head coach. And following that, their replacement head coach Beom-joon “Bishop” Lee left the team in March. Spitfire then had no choice but to rally their remaining coaching staff to win the first championship. Entering the second season, Spitfire will now play under the notable StarCraft/Heroes of the Storm coach KwangBok “Coach815” Kim.
Which Expansion Teams can dominate season 2?
It’s too early to tell which of the new teams will capture the hearts of the audience, but their future performances can be predicted by the players they’ve signed. Paris Eternal signed veteran talents like George “Shadowburn” Gushcha and Terence “SoOn” Tarlier, while the Washington Justice invited standout rookies Ethan “Stratus” Yankel and Corey “Corey” Nigra. It’s also worth noting that Chengdu Hunters completely settled with talents from their home country.
Can New York Excelsior recover from the upset?
New York Excelsior was the top seed team last season until they lost to Philadelphia Fusion, ending their fight before the finals. That’s when London Spitfire seized the chance to shock everyone with their last performance. This year, they will come back with a roster filled with veteran players Seonghyun “Jjonak” Bang, Jong-Ryeol “Saebyeolbe” Park, and Do Hyeon “Pine” Kim. It’s evident that they are still as strong as they were in the first season.
Will Gladiators find success without Fissure?
MVP runner-up Chan-Hyung “Fissure” Baek was once the face of the Los Angeles Gladiators after successfully pulling off impressive numbers. He made a grand run to the playoffs and post-season, leading the way to make Gladiators one of the best teams in the inaugural season. However, Fissure got benched. He missed the lone postseason series, the same stage where Gladiators lost the entire tournament. Moving from the inaugural season, Fissure now enters the second season with new Overwatch team Seoul Dynasty.
Will Ashe fit in the OWL meta?
One of the changes for the second season involves the addition of a new hero, Ashe. She debuted with her shotgun, dynamite, and coach gun. Fans seem to enjoy the new hero, but we have yet to see how will she fit in the competitive meta. Ashe’s current composition and her character as a DPS option might disrupt the meta.
