A Look At China's LPL Scene With Team We, FPX & RNG - Tipify

Esports News – The 2019 LPL Spring Split concludes its eight week with Team We, FunPlus Phoenix, and Royal Never Give Up under the spotlight. Some of the teams are fighting for the top spot, while many struggle to claim a playoffs spot. Let’s have a complete breakdown of the match results, key storylines, and individual performances from China’s LoL powerhouses.

Team We

One can say that Team We is one of the oldest teams in the League of Legends Pro League, but the team entered the 2019 competitive season without enough hype to cement their name as the favorite. This is mostly due to their 6-13 finishing record at the 2018 Summer Split. This season of LPL, Team We started the game with two losses against SinoDragon Gaming and Suning. They managed to execute an upset win against EDward Gaming, but lost to FunPlus Phoenix right after.

Team We was inconsistent during the first half of the tournament, but when they substituted Jiang “beishang” Zhi-Peng in for Zhou “Magic” Jun-Xua, they won several games and somehow led the entirety of Game 1. Analysts are certain that though Team We aren’t one of the top-tier teams in the current standings, they can manage to win the majority of their matches in each series.

Funplus Phoenix

Funplus Phoenix currently holds the second place on the leaderboards. They had a chance to clinch the first spot if it weren’t for their back to back losses against Royal Never Give Up and Topsports Gaming, the current number one. Their victorious matches against EDward Gaming and SinoDragon Gaming offered them the chance to get back on feet. Moreover, the team got back together with midlaner Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang and jungler Jungler Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang to win their succeeding matches.

The team has a comfortable position and good schedule at the moment, they will only play against Bilibili Gaming, Vici Gaming, and Victory Five. Analysts believe that if they can pull off another winning streak against the three, they can take home the number one seed in the playoffs.

Royal Never Give Up

Team RNG is on the top 4 seed. Their performances against Bilibili Gaming and Rogue Warriors pushed them forward and backward, but their victory against the powerhouse FunPlus Phoenix says a lot. Based on this, it seems like the comeback of Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao and Li “Xiaohu” Yuan-Hao to the lineup empowered the team.

RNG has big matches coming up against JD Gaming and Invictus Gaming. They now have a fighting chance against any team due to their new roster and after their victory against a powerhouse team. However, they still need more balance and a new level of consistency to challenge the top team for the LPL title.
