Astralis Wins IEM Katowice 2019 - Tipify

Esports News – The recent Intel Extreme Masters in Katowice, Poland wrapped up this weekend with Astralis taking home its third major title under the ongoing competitive season of CSGO. The winning team dominated the grand finals against ENCE esports, closing off the season with a 2-0 victory.

ENCE put up a decent fight, but Astralis’ current track record had victory written all over it. Astralis, having won the ELEAGUE 2017 Major and FACEIT Major: London 2018, is one of the heavy favorites this year. They’re also one of the few esports teams to win back-to-back CSGO Majors within a single season without dropping a single map.

Tournament recap

The grand finals tournament was anticipated to deliver action-packed moments, and it started off as expected. Astralis pulled off an aggressive style in the early rounds, but ENCE managed to win four straight rounds to secure a lead.

The first map, Train, highlighted weapons pros usually steer clear of. There were auto shotguns from ENCE’s team which rattled Astralis for a few rounds, but the winning team concentrated on their damage attack to take map 1 with a score of 16-11.

Astralis completely dominated ENCE in the second map, Inferno. This particular match showcases Astralis’ best performances in the past few years, boasting their highest winning percentage this competitive season. Ence tried to keep up in the first 10 rounds, but Astralis won four straight rounds to take a 14-1 lead into halftime. Astralis closed off Inferno with ease, ending it with a 16-4 victory.

With this new victory added to the list of their achievements, Astralis now holds the position of one of the greatest CSGO teams of all time. From their recorded 18 tournaments in 2018 and 2019, they have 11 first place finishes, 3 second place finishes, 3 top four finishes, and 1 top eight finish.
