Esports News – Week 2 of the Overwatch League season 2 surprised us with a lot of upsets. The special highlights center on the inaugural season championship team London Spitfire and the new expansion teams. This only proves that everything is back to zero, and the standings and performances of the teams last season start off with a clean slate. Moving on, let’s look into the most exciting matches for Week 3, and wait for another set of upsets.
Los Angeles Gladiators vs London Spitfire (March 1, 6 pm CT)
Two established teams will battle it out in the arena once again. The only difference is that the two teams have new players to defend their positions. Los Angeles Gladiators lost to expansion team Paris Eternal last week, but they recently gained another player to the team: Damage dealer Jang “Decay” Gui-un, a former player of KongDoo Panthera. Decay will probably use Zarya and Brigitte alongside Lane “Surefour” Roberts or João Pedro “Hydration” Goes Telles.
Meanwhile, the championship team London Spitfire gets their rhythm going in the triple-triple meta, successfully winning two games. Their best asset this year is Sombra specialist Lee “Guard” Hee-dong.
Shanghai Dragons vs Chengdu Hunters (March 1, 10:30pm CT)
The notorious no-win team Shanghai Dragons was over the moon last week after finally securing their first win in the Overwatch League. They beat Boston Uprising to end their 42-game losing streak which traces back to inaugural season. We’ll see on week 3 if they can continue their momentum against expansion team Chengdu Hunters.
The opposing team, surprisingly, had a slow start after winning and losing several games. They faced two close wins against expansion team Guangzhou Charge and Florida Mayhem but were beaten by Seoul Dynasty 4-0 last week.
Paris Eternal vs Atlanta Reign (March 2, 2 pm CT)
Week 3 pits together two of the most successful expansion teams this season: Paris and Atlanta. Interestingly, the two currently ranked third and fourth in the official league rankings. Paris went undefeated for the past weeks after mastering the triple-triple meta, while Atlanta’s 2-1 record was brought about by their single loss against Philadelphia Fusion. Regardless, many believe that Atlanta will flourish in the next stages as they have the upper hand when it comes to healers and damage dealers. The battle between the two is now being dubbed as the Triple-Triple Showdown.
