Esports News – The DreamHack Open Rio 2019 concluded with CIS team AVANGAR lifting the trophy and claiming the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize pool. The champions defeated Brazilian team FURIA in two out of three maps—2-16 in Vertigo, 16-8 in Inferno, and 19-16 in Train.
Furia got the first pistol round and took the early lead on Vertigo, thanks to Rinaldo “ableJ” Moda Junior’s consecutive kills in a 2vs3 team fight against AVANGAR players. AbleJ let the opposing teams pass him onto the B site and took advantage of it. Despite this smooth start, AVANGAR won the first round due to weapons advantage, shaking AVANGAR’s defenses for a while. Furia then managed to win a forcebuy to take hold of the scoreboard and close half of the game with a 13-2 record. The second half once again granted Furia the pistol round. It was Yuri “yuurih” Santos who finally ended the 18-round map with 26 frags and 138.6 ADR.
On Inferno, Furia passed 3 out of four pistol rounds on the CT side. Vinicius “VINI” Figueiredo even scored a triple. AVANGAR was able to get back on track with weapons advantage in the third round. They infiltrated the third round before Furia broke their momentum with a massive triple. The wins and losses were back and forth afterward, but it was AVANGAR who were able to win the game and push the tournament into the decider round.
Furia took the lead on Train as the defensive side. The triple and double kills brought about by AVANGAR’s Sanjar “SANJI” Kuliev and Timur “buster” Tulepov were enough to get the team back in the game, but FURIA won a fulbuy in the fourth round, shocking the players on the offensive side. AVANGAR is still determined to take the lead as they manage to get three kills in a row on the attacking side. Furia kept the team at bay before AVANGAR won half of the game with a 10-5 score.
Avangar took the second pistol round and didn’t allow FURIA to win another forcebuy. A few more rounds were traded between the two teams before AVANGAR reached the match point and close out the map 19-16.
