Esports News – The conclusion of The International 2019 will introduce the new offseason tournament series of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC). In line with that, ESL One Hamburg 2019, Europe’s largest Dota 2 festival, marks the first offseason Major of the new competitive season this October.
The announcement of the tournament’s comeback was led by the Senior Vice President of Product at ESL, Ulrich Schulze: “This year the focus is especially on offering the passionate community an ultimate Dota 2 fan experience by transforming the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg into the gateway to the world of esports.”
ESL One Hamburg is currently the only Major tournament with a definite schedule post-TI9. The Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany hosts the tournament. It has been the venue for the 2018 installment and the 2 previous tournaments now. The first few rounds of the tournament are set to take place from October 22 to 24, while the main event is scheduled to take place from October 25 to 27.
A total of 12 professional Dota 2 teams from different regions will meet in the arena for the tournament’s title and the lion’s share of the $300,000 prize pool. Eight teams get a direct invite, but the remaining four teams have to earn their spots from the regional qualifiers in Europe; the participating regions are CIS, North America, China, and Southeast Asia.
The probable teams on Valve’s list already shuffled their rosters in preparation for the new DPC season. Those teams who weren’t lucky enough to get a spot in TI9 might introduce new players or entirely new rosters to test the waters. There’s a lot of expectations surrounding the participants this year, especially the future winning team. If one can remember, Virtus.Pro and Team Secret have set the bar high for the next participants of ESL One Hamburg.
Virtus Pro, winner of ESL One Hamburg 2017, became the top-ranked team in DPC last year. They were followed by Team Secret, the championship team of 2018, who also ranked number one in the recent competitive season. This pattern is expected to happen again, and the 2019 season might present the rise of a new powerhouse team after TI9.
