ESL SEA National Championships Is Set For Season 2 - Tipify

Esports News – There’s a lot of competition in the Southeast Asian region, especially if we take into account the international Dota 2 scene. This is why sponsors and organizers take all the chances they can get to host the biggest minor and major tournaments in the region. This year, ESL Asia continues their ESL National Championships in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia/Singapore in July. The new set of Dota 2 tournaments makes the second season of the series.

Main tournament details

The ESL National Championships Season 2 begins in July and introduces the best 8 Dota 2 teams in the SEA region. The teams compete for 3 months for the title and the lion’s share of the $36,000 prize pool.

Relegation

The first 4 teams on the lineup comes directly from the 1st season’s lineup. The bottom four teams in Season 1 then undergo a relegation phase where they compete against another set of 4 teams from the open qualifiers. The 8 teams in the relegation phase will compete through BO3 matches on June 15 to 16 (Thailand and Vietnam) and on June 22 to 13 ( Malaysia/Singapore). The four winners from this phase moves on to the official stage of the 2nd season and will be placed on their respective National Championship Series in July.

Open qualifiers

Each participating region holds 4 open qualifiers. Only those who dominate their region’s qualifier will receive an invite to the relegation phase. All regional qualifiers are open to any professional team with 3 to 5 players.

Qualifier 4: June 15th (Sat)

Thailand

Qualifier 1: May 30th (Thu)
Qualifier 2: May 31st (Fri)
Qualifier 3: June 6th (Thu)
Qualifier 4: June 7th (Fri)

Vietnam

Qualifier 1: May 30th (Thu)
Qualifier 2: May 31st (Fri)
Qualifier 3: June 6th (Thu)
Qualifier 4: June 7th (Fri)

Regular season and playoffs

All 8 winners of the qualifiers and the relegation phase will then take part in the regular season for 7 weeks. This follow the two BO1 matches per week tournament format every Friday and Saturday. The top four teams with the highest number of points advances to the single-elimination playoffs bracket. In there, the final winner for each region will be crowned.
