OG Esports Secures The International 2019 Ticket - Tipify

Esports News – Everyone loves an underdog story, and after a challenging year of Dota 2 tournaments, OG Esports received their hard earned title at The International 9 with a gritty win over Evil Geniuses. The defending champions were on the edge of elimination from the EPICENTER Major, but for the first time this season, Team Secret failed to deliver a series in the middle of a big tournament, giving OG Esports a chance to secure a slot in The International 2019.

The story

OG has been without their captain, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, due to health issues. However, that didn’t stop the team from performing well. Their line up proceeded to impress everyone in the opening game of the second round. A 27-minute run carried by Anathan “ana” Pham’s Slark and Sébastien “7ckngMad” Debs’ Dark Seer propelled the team to victory.

Secret held their own, but OG was clearly the better team that day. The latter looked robust all around and was more aggressive pushing lanes. Trailing 1-0, the favorites to win their third Major were about to say goodbye.

Game two showed more back and forth action between the teams regardless of the stats. On paper, Secret was overwhelmed at a 37-15 kill disadvantage, but they were threatening in team fights. OG was only able to create a gap toward the second half of the match as they took down towers and moved in to take the Aegis.

Michał “Nisha” Jankowski takes the cake for secret after a killer game with Templar Assassin, afflicting 40,901 hero damage as his team tried to force a win. Unfortunately, OG was able to keep Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg out of the picture, bringing him down 11 times and leaving Secret with a gaping hole in a lot of the endgame clashes.

Ultimately, OG took the 2-0 sweep, eliminating the number 1 team in the world and claiming their spot in the top 12 of the Dota Pro Circuit. This guarantees them a slot at The International 2019, where they will defend their 2018 title.

OG Esports will have another face-off with LGD Gaming which is reminiscent of the TI8 Grand Finals. This sees who moves on into the next round of the lower bracket. The match between OG Esports and LGD Gaming happens on June 28 and OG hopes to have their captain back for that match.
