Esports News – SEA’s Mineski is the first team to earn a spot in The International 9 regional qualifiers. The team joins direct invites in the competition and will fight against SEA’s pool of powerhouse teams: Fnatic and TNC Predator.
Mineski was one of the troubled teams during qualifiers. They would have secured a direct invite if it weren’t for their poor performance at the MDL Disneyland Paris Major and DreamLeague Season 11. Aside from their disappointing runs and early exits from Dota Pro Circuit’s Majors and Minors, they’ve faced a late-season roster shuffle and an excruciating BO5 series in the grand finals before finally securing a slot in the official tournament.
Looking back, the team’s journey during the regional qualifiers wasn’t that smooth either. Mineski bounced back and forth wins and losses—they lost three matches and barely made it to the next set of qualifiers. What saved the team was their encounter with Team Jinesbrus, a newly-established team from South Korea.
Despite their newbie status, Team Jinesbrus is packed with several veteran Dota 2 players, including the famous Kim “Febby” Yong-min, Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, and Nico “Gunnar” Lopez. Team Jinesbrus and its core players were hoping to qualify in TI8 by competing in a weaker qualifier, but they were wrong about Mineski.
Team Jinesbrus displayd an impressive run, going through a 6-1 winning streak in the group stages to take the top spot. Mineski ended their streak by executing a 2-0 sweep in less than 50 minutes. This first victory allowed Mineski to advance to the next round, their penultimate match.
Mineski then beat Team Adroit with a 2-1 victory to make it to the final match. They’re only one win away from TI9’s reserved spot for SEA. In an unexpected turn of events, Team Jinesbrus is back on the arena for retribution. The team took down Adroit and Team Amplify in the lower bracket to face Mineski in the grand finals. Mineski didn’t back down and defeated their newfound rival to get into the finish line.
