Esports News – Mobile gaming is now a million dollar global business, and Riot Games is not here to be left behind. Recently, reports have claimed that one of the trusted esports news sources in China uploaded a video on YouTube that features League of Legends being played on a mobile phone.
Riot has yet to announce or confirm the game’s mobile version. But news organization company Reuters revealed that China’s Tencent Holdings Ltd. is working with Riot Games to test the potential of League of Legends as a portable game. Riot has been Tencent’s parent company since 2011.
“One of the sources said Tencent and Riot have been working on a mobile version of League of Legends for more than a year, although a separate source said it was unlikely to be launched in 2019…A mobile version would likely bring in more Asian players, who tend to prefer mobile-based games while Western gamers tend to prefer desktops or consoles for more sophisticated gameplay,” Reuters said.
About the video
The promotional video targets Chinese players as it was uploaded by Challenge E-sports in China. The title translates to “League of Legends mobile game test version film outflow”. For nearly 3 minutes, the video shows how the game can function neatly in a smartphone. It somehow teaches people how to play LoL on mobile.
The user interface carries a circular trackpad on the left portion of the screen, a feature most downloadable mobile games possess. The top portion of the screen is dedicated to the game’s full map for each lane. Just below the map, players can see their season rewards.
The Summoner’s Rift is on display, and the 27 original heroes from LoL are visible: Dr. Mundo, Miss Fortune, Garen, Vayne, Jinx, Fizz, Xin Zhao, Nasus, Oriana, Janna, Lux, Annie, Nami, Gragas, Ahri, Twisted Fate, Olaf, Tryndamere, Vi, Malphite, Ezreal, Master Yi, Jax, Fiora, Blitzcrank, Shyvana, and Soraka. It seems like the developers are still deciding on whether to include the 144 heroes from the desktop version or not. Nonetheless, there’s a possibility that Riot and Tencent will add more heroes to the rumored mobile game.
