OG Esports, Evil Geniuses Dominate The International 9 Day 2 - Tipify

Esports News – We saw how PSG.LGD and Vici Gaming dominated the upper bracket matches in the first day of The International 9. Now, powerhouse teams OG Esports and Evil Geniuses advance to the next stage of the competition after defeating Newbee and Team Secret.

Tournament recap

The best teams from Group B are the stars of TI9’s second day. The first match opened with OG and Newbee’s matchup—where the former has proven why they are the defending TI champion. The team’s latest carry IO strat, courtesy of Anathan “ana” Pham, weakened Newbee’s players on the first game. Backing Ana’s strategies and movements were Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen with Bristleback and Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka with Rubick. It’s worth noting that this is the very first time top player Topson used Bristleback as a hero.

The second game was pretty much the same, except when Topson switched from Bristleback to Monkey King, and when Ana chose Juggernaut as his hero. OG eventually concluded the game with 0 deaths and a total of 29 kills.

The second match featured Evil Geniuses and Team Secret’s strong performances. The matchup lasted for three games. EG clinched the first round with Artour “Arteezy” Babaev on Sven and Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan on Leshrac. Both players ended up with two-digit kills.

On the next round, EG made sure that they’d close the game as early as possible and picked the same set of heroes for Arteezy and SumaiL. But Team Secret fought back, so the second round lasted for over an hour.

Third time’s a charm for EG. Team Secret got the early lead, but EG secured a comeback with SumaiL on Ember Spirit and Arteezy on Phantom Assassin. The strategy worked flawlessly with the help of Gustav “s4” Magnusson and his Enchantress, so EG was able to push Team Secret to the lower bracket.
