Esports News – Not even a month after OG Esports made history at The International 9, Valve is on the move again with new surprises and gameplay improvements. A new patch update called “Outlander” will introduce new heroes, in-game abilities, hero moves in the last quarter of the year.
While Team Secret and Team Liquid were battling it out for a spot in the playoffs, Valve announced their plans for the Outlander update. New heroes will join Dota 2 and Underlords later this year to diversify the pool and add new faces.
Dota 2’s YouTube channel released the official promotional video of Void Spirit, the first hero from the announcement. By doing this, Valve confirmed the fans’ speculation about the existence of the fourth member of the elemental spirit brothers: Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit, and Earth Spirit. The trailer shows his main weapons and features—particularly his ability to teleport and his double-edged energy sword. Void Spirit entered a portal to the mortal world at the end of the trailer, but we don’t have a specific release date yet of his entry to the game.
Next hero to grace the stage is Snapfire, a cool grandma with deadly pets and weapons. She came from the Keen Folk, so she’s associated with Sniper, Gyrocopter, and Tinker. Snapfire’s defining abilities and characteristics include her lizard mount and large firearms. We expect to see more of her weapon systems in the Outlander update since the Keen Folk is a race of small humanoids with technologically-advanced machines and magical abilities.
Valve will also release a new ranked system and balanced changes alongside Snapfire and Void Spirit. From their blog post, it seems like the patch will introduce a major Dota 2 overhaul. There will be smaller patch updates before Outlander enters the picture, so players will have more time to adjust. They can also send feedback and suggestions on Reddit and other social media pages handled by Valve.
According to some reports, Valve will nerf the trending heroes at The International 9 and buff those rarely-picked ones to improve the gameplay. They’ll modify Elder Titan, Shadow Demon, Mirana, and Storm Spirit in the coming weeks.
