G2 Esports To Enter LoL Worlds 2nd Group Stage Undefeated - Tipify

Esports News – The first half of the League of Legends World Championship 2019 concluded, and it looks like G2 esports dominates the rankings with a 3-0 record. Will the champions of the Mid-Season Invitational bag the biggest LoL title this year? Let’s take a look at the first round-robin run of G2 Esports.

Journey to the Worlds

G2 Esports are heavy favorites. They have an impressive track record before entering the Worlds. Aside from their MSI title, every member of the team and G2’s entire starting lineup was named the LEC Summer Split All-Pro first team. Martin “Wunder” Hansen, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, Rasmus “Caps” Winther, Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle were crowned as the best players in this year’s LEC.

Now onto the Worlds 2019 qualifiers, G2 went to Group A, together with Cloud 9, Griffin, and Hong Kong Attitude. Although many fans and players already expect G2 Esports to have a smooth run, it’s difficult to discredit the potential of Cloud 9 and Griffin. If one can remember, Cloud 9, including its previous rosters, always make it out of the group stage. Griffin, meanwhile, bagged all the second-place finishes in three consecutive LCK splits.

Based on Griffin and Cloud 9’s respective positions, an upset is unlikely but not impossible. Lo and behold, G2 Esports exceeded all expectations in the first half of the group stage’s round-robin.

Group Stage, first round-robin

The LoL Worlds 2019 group stage witnessed the magic of G2 Esports again. G2 crushed all teams from Group A—ending two matches against Griffin and Cloud 9 in under 30 minutes. It’s worth mentioning, however, that the team struggled to defeat Hong Kong Attitude—another surprising match from the competition.

Yesterday, G2 weren’t expecting how strong HKA support Ling “Kaiwing” Kai Wing is. Kaiwing was on Thresh, and he lured some G2 members into a team fight. Backed by other HKA members, Kaiwing gave his team a chance to end the game and defeat G2. But Mikyx’s Rakan didn’t let that happen. After minutes of back and forth action, G2 won the match.

G2 enters the second half of the round-robin stage undefeated. They face Griffin, Cloud9, and HKA again until October 18, Friday.
