Tournament recap

One of the biggest comebacks in LoL tournaments this year is IG’s Worlds 2019 run. The team didn’t have a smooth run in the previous majors, but they found their footing on the group stage and quarterfinals. Further, they have proven their consistency in their recent match against Griffin.

IG capitalized on Griffin’s mistakes in the first and second games. They allowed Griffin to take control of the early games, only to beat them in team fights. During game one, for instance, IG let Griffin take the Herald. With the opposing team’s guard down, IG attacked and went on to get multiple kills. Game two saw Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok on Kayle saving IG from late-game by Griffin. With TheShy on the front, IG can breathe a sigh of relief after chaotic team fights.

Game three was slightly different as Griffin finally learned how to fight back and regain control. One of Griffin’s members also used Kayle to infiltrate IG’s base and go for multiple kills. Park “Viper” Do-hyeon even earned his first pentakill. After a series of team fights, Griffin won the game.

Unfortunately for Griffin, Viper failed fight IG’s forces on his own. When TheShy picked Kayle again, Griffin had no choice but to face his wrath. Choi “Sword” Sung-won managed to secure early kills, but TheSky’s presence kept him from getting more points. In the end, IG closed out the series with a 3-1 victory.
