Esports News – The League of Legends World Championship transitioned to the Play-In stage smoothly. And the first day of matches with Group A did not disappoint. Here’s a complete recap of all the matches that culminated in the first day:
Clutch Gaming vs Unicorns of Love
The two teams officially opened the play-ins stage, with UoL winning the tournament with their impeccable balance and coordination. Although Clutch tried to take the lead with Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon and Nam “Lira” Tae-yoo’s first blood kill, UoL had the team advantage even from the start. UoL easily killed three champions, earned the first Baron, and wipe out multiple towers. In the end, they claimed the first Nexus of Worlds 2019.
Detonation FocusMe vs Splyce
Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir of Splyce got his team the lead with a first blood kill. He used Heracim to execute the kill. Detonation FocusMe tried to get back in the game, but Splyce successfully secured the First Tower bonus. Just a few minutes after, Splyce earned three kills and won two fights. Detonation FocusMe’s defenses crumbled, giving Splyce a chance to destroy their Nexus completely.
Mammoth vs Unicorns of Love
UoL gave an impressive performance when they faced Clutch Gaming, but the tides have turned. Mammoth defeated UoL in their first-ever LoL World Championship. Mammoth controlled the game easily, dominating every fight. Aside from a few early kills, they bagged the First Tower bonus and the succeeding ones in only 20 minutes. UoL couldn’t stop them, so Mammoth earned themselves a Nexus.
Detonation FocusMe vs Isurus Gaming
Detonation FocusMe faced another defeat in the hands of Isurus Gaming, and the result of the match was convincing enough. Regardless, Detonation FocusMe put up a good fight. Isurus earned their early leads the hard way and barely managed to secure the first blood kill and First Tower bonus. Isurus Gaming had to kill four DFM members to win the Nexus.
Mammoth vs Clutch Gaming
Finally, Clutch Gaming sealed their first win. It was a tight match as Mammoth was the one who defeated UoL, Clutch’s first opponent. Clutch Gaming took the First Tower Bonus and the Rift Herald at the beginning of the game, giving them the advantage in the 23-minute mark. Mammoth’s dragons and inhibitors were all destroyed by Clutch Gaming, and before they know it, Clutch took the Nexus.
Splyce vs Isurus Gaming
Splyce continued their winning streak and defeated Isurus Gaming in the last match of the Play-Ins. Once again, Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir earned the team’s early lead. Isurus’ Tamás “Vizicsacsi” Kiss got the first blood kill, but Xerxe killed the opponent’s hope in winning the game. Splyce made a one, swift kill to claim the Nexus in the last few minutes of the game, destroying Isurus’ players and inhibitors.
