Esports News – The 2019 League of Legends World Championship is on a break as all qualified teams prepare for the Main Event Group Stage on October 12. Riot Games then took this opportunity to release Patch 9.20, the answer to the game’s biggest champion bugs and inconsistencies.
This new update may tilt the meta, so Riot decided to incorporate it on the next set of LoL Worlds tournaments. For now, players who are currently live on the game can see the significant changes in the latest version.
Major Champion changes
Riot emphasized that Patch 9.20 mainly focuses on Garen, Shaco, and Viktor. It’s quite significant as the abilities of these champions are adjusted across all levels. Here’s how Riot improved the three:
Above all, Riot decided to remove the Villain mechanic on his ultimate—a feature both hated by users and opponents. The developer admitted that Garen’s villain character often lead him to failure. Garen’s passive was also updated, so he can now earn Conqueror stacks, a special Rune initially reserved for juggernauts. For his base stats, his attack speed growth, health, and health growth were all updated to 3.65%, 620, and 84, respectively.
Patch 9.20 changed Shaco’s playstyle and identity completely. Shaco users will see him in a different light—“More early game damage, less late-game damage”. Riot invested their resources in his late-game one-shot potential, W – Jack In The Box, Basic Attack Damage, and Two-Shiv Poison Damage. For his base stats, Shaco’s attack damage and attack damage growth were decreased to 63 and 3.
Riot gave a major overhaul to Viktor’s Augments for his W and R, two important yet underpowered abilities. His Aftershock Death Ray missiles are now as big as the initial missile, so Viktor users can inflict more damage to enemies. His Q – Siphon Power, W – Gravity Field, and R – Chaos Storm were also updated, but his base stats remain the same.
Other champions like Aatrox, Akali, Fiora, Gangplank, Kai’Sa, Leona, Lucian, Poppy, and Volibear received the usual bug fixes.
Patch 9.20 also affected some special items used by players and champions. Although not as significant as champion changes, the following adjustments are equally useful:
Deathblade: Starts with 0 stacks = Starts with 1 stack
Frozen Heart Duration: 4 seconds = 1 second
Infinity Edge: 150% Crit Damage = 125% Crit Damage
Quicksilver: 5s cooldown = 3s cooldown
Thieves Gloves = new average quality
