Taking A Look At LoL Worlds Group Stage Day 5 - Tipify

Esports News – Day five of the League of Legends World Championship Group Stage finalized the first set of teams advancing to the Knockout Stage. Here’s the complete recap of the 7 BO1 matches among Gam Esports, Funplus Phoenix, J Team, and Splyce.

Gam Esports vs Funplus Phoenix

China’s first seed, Funplus Phoenix, swept GAM Esports with a convincing victory. In the first few minutes of the game, FPX’s Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang traveled to the bot lane to secure a kill. GAM responded through the top lane and surprisingly won a 3-2 lead, but it was short-lived. FPX found GAM’s weakness and took a single kill trade.

In the middle of the game, GAM lost star player Nguyễn “Slay” Ngọc Hùng while fighting FPX with the Baron. Both teams were forced to fight in the middle lane. When the battle is over, the Baron and the Nexus went to FPX.

CTBC J TEAM VS SPLYCE

Splyce is one of the top teams from Group B, so it’s not surprising that the team secured first blood in just a few minutes. Marek “Humanoid” Brázda and J Team’s Hsu “Rest” Shih-Chieh both chased each other for a kill afterward. But Splyce took control of the top lane and the first tower halfway through the game.

Splyce then pushed through the bottom tower. Humanoid was caught in a team fight against the majority of the J Team members, but Tamás “Vizicsacsi” Kiss and Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir secured 5 kills and took the Nexus.

GAM ESPORTS VS CTBC J TEAM

After losing to two of the most powerful teams in LoL today, GAM Esports and J Team faced each other in the third game. Unfortunately, things weren’t looking good for GAM. J Team secured the first blood and pushed Rest to go for a 1v2 kill. Their attacks were aggressive, so the first tower went to them.

In the second half of the game, a 1-1 fight broke. GAM went to the top lane, but J Team followed with a 2-2 fight. Although GAM managed to take the Baron, J Team already earned 5 kills to close out the game.

SPLYCE VS FUNPLUS PHOENIX

Now down to the most exciting matchup of the day, everyone’s expecting FPX to win the round and advance to the Knockout stage. However, the opposite happened. Splyce took control of the game and upset the match.

FPX tried to lure Splyce in 4v1 and 5v5 teamfights, but the latter endured all of it. When engaging, Splyce made sure that they have the upper hand. Two excruciating fights in the middle lane helped them secure two inhibitors and end the match.

Dragons: 2-2

SPLYCE VS GAM ESPORTS

With a 3-0 record from Splyce, it was expected that this match would be a one-sided game. Despite the odds, GAM started the match with a kill from the bottom lane. Splyce responded from the top lane, and the Rift Herald fell to their hands. GAM barely made it out alive.

Splyce got the Baron through four free kills in the second half of the game. After that, they took all the towers along the way. Finally, Splyce concluded the game with the help of Humanoid’s teleportation.

FUNPLUS PHOENIX VS CTBC J TEAM

Although not as one-sided as Splyce VS. GAM Esports’ match, everyone already knows what might happen between FPX and J Team. At the beginning of the game, FPX secured a kill in the form of Chen “Hana” Chih-Hao. GAM was fighting back, but the Rift Herald went to Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang all the same.

In hopes to get the next lead, JT went for a new kill when FPX was in rotation. But Tian was quick, and he killed one member of the team. FPX secured three more kills before destroying the Nexus.

FUNPLUS PHOENIX VS SPLYCE

The final match is the determiner. Here, FPX took the lead with the help of Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang’s impressive performance. But Splyce always thinks ahead of time. The team found an opportunity to open a 2-2 team fight to defeat FPX in the first half of the game. And it was a success.

Doinb tried to save his team by killing Humanoid and taking the Infernal Dragon. But a 4V5 teamfight broke out, and it was in favor of Splyce. Both teams fought for their lives over the mid priority. But in the end, Splyce won the game.
