LoL Worlds Play-In Knockout Stage Day 1 Recap - Tipify

Esports News – The Play-In Knockout Stage of League of Legends World Championship kicked off with its first matches, pitting Clutch Gaming and DAMWON Gaming against Lowkey Esports and Royal Youth. Both Clutch and DAMWON now moves on to the main event group stage of the competition at LEC Studio in Berlin.

Tournament recap

Play-In Stage favorite, DAMWON Gaming, get past Lowkey Esports easily. They finished off their opponent with a 3-1 victory. At first, DAMWON fought Lowkey from a huge deficit, but DAMWON saw an advantage to dominate the mid-game. Both DAMWON and Lowkey clashed in different team fights across all games, leading the winning team to destroy Lowkey’s Nexus and heavy champions in the last game.

Damwon is now part of Group D, which includes ahq, Team Liquid, Royal Bandits, Flamengo and defending champion Invictus Gaming.

Meanwhile, Clutch struggled to secure a slot to the Play-In Knockout Stage. On the first day, Unicorns of Love took down Clutch and barely managed to seal their first win against Mammoth. Surprisingly, they faced little to no challenge against Royal Youth in the Play-In Knockout Stage, closing out the game with a 3-0 victory.

Clutch’s AD Carry Cody “Cody Sun” Sun impressed the crowd in three games. His Lucian is a big threat to Royal Youth. And for that, he earned the MVP honors across all their matches in the Play-In Knockout. With Cody Sun’s help, it became easier for Clutch to destroy Royal Youth’s Nexus cleanly.

The winning team now moves on to the next stage with either Group A which consists of Fnatic, SK Telecom T1, and Royal Never Give Up or Group B which consist of FunPlus Phoenix, J Team, and GAM Esports.

What’s next?

The second day of the Play-In Knockout Stage continues today with Hong Kong Attitude, Isurus Gaming, Splyce, and Unicorns of Love as contenders. The winning teams will solidify the list of teams under Groups A, B, C, and D.

The main event begins on October 12 to feature teams under the four mentioned groups playing a double-round robin format in BO1 matches. The top two teams from each group then advances to the official Knockout Stage.
