Astralis Dominates IGS Season 3 Race With IEM Beijing Victory - Tipify

Esports News – Astralis, the first Intel Grand Slam titleholder, is back in the race for season 3 after winning IEM Beijing. Astralis surpassed 100 Thieves in the finals and is now competing alongside Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, and Fnatic for the new Grand Slam title and prize money. At press time, the team holds four championship titles and the number 1 spot in the rankings.

IEM Beijing recap

Despite 100 Thieves’ impressive run towards the finals, Astralis gave them a one-sided match. The match was 100 Thieves’ first finals, and it looks like they weren’t ready for a tournament as big as IEM Beijing.

The match started at Vertigo, a map that heavily favors Astralis. The opposing CS:GO team tried to lay traps and catch Astralis off-guard, which worked in the first few minutes. But, Astralis saw the team building up their momentum and spotting some weaknesses, so coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen called a tactical pause. When the match resumed, Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander saw an opportunity to execute a 1v2 clutch to damage 100 Thieves’ economy. The match was over as soon as Astralis reached the 16-14 tally.

Nuke opened the second match. At first, it looked like 100 Thieves had a back-up plan as they managed to seal a 3-0 deficit. But as soon as Astralis tapped into their core of what drives them to win, they executed multiple kills. They earned an 11-4 lead and closed out a few minutes after.

The third match was on Train. 100 Thieves once again claimed their winning start, but Astralis hit back immediately. Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad tried to keep 100 Thieves from getting crushed with two critical team fights. 100 Thieves nearly won the second-half pistol because of this, but Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen was quick on his feet. In the end, Astralis wrapped up the entire tournament with a 16-3 score on Train.

IGS Season 3 race

Astralis enters the IGS Season 3 Race as the top team. The team needs to worry about Evil Geniuses and Liquid as Fnatic is currently on the fourth spot. The IGS Season 3 winner will be determined after ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals (December 3-8), IEM Katowice 2020 (February 25-March 1), and ESL One Cologne 2020 (July 6-12).
