Esports News – Chinese team Funplus Phoenix is set to compete against G2 Esports for the LoL Worlds Championship title this November 10. As of now, G2 is heavily favored by the crowd, but FPX is oozing with potential. Does FPX have what it takes to bring glory to the League of Legends Pro League (LPL)?
Journey to the Worlds
Beijing-based video game developer Funplus created its LoL esports division in December 2017. Funplus Phoenix was born, and the team immediately joined the LPL lineup. Introducing the game to the public is Funplus Phoenix inaugural roster which consists of top laner Kim “GimGoon” Han-saem, jungler Hu “Pepper” Zhi-Wei, mid-laner Feng “bing” Jin-Wei, bot laner Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang, and support Liu “Crisp” Qing-Song.
The first set of FPX members competed at the Demacia Championship 2017. Unfortunately, they went against Team WE and only placed 9th–15th. They had no notable championships after the first defeat, but the team came back strong at the 2019 LPL Spring regular season with a new roster.
Jungler Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang and veteran mid-laner Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang joined the roster in 2019. Everything went well after the acquisition of the two star players. FPX greatly improved. They placed 1st in the LPL’s regular season and got qualified for the semifinals.
In every role, FPX makes sure that all team members can survive attacks of the opposing team. The team’s current roster comprises of excellent players with signature styles:
GimGoon – with his top picks, Gangplank and Renekton, GimGoon can dominate team fights in the top lane.
Tian – known for defeating top junglers from powerhouse teams using Lee Sin and Gragas.
Doinb – recognized by the LoL community as a solo queue talent before entering the international scene, Doinb is one of the most powerful players in FPX’s roster. He usually picks unconventional champions, making it difficult for enemy teams to predict his moves. He’s known for using Kled, Nautilus, and Pantheon in mid lane.
Lwx – he’s invincible on Kai’Sa. Lwx can singlehandedly outsmart other ADCs in 1v1 combats and team fights.
Crisp – another star player who can carry the team in critical matches. Since the group stages, Crisp got nothing but clean team fights and executions. He’s really good at solo que games.
