Valve Reveals The International 2020 Main Event Date & Venue - Tipify

Esports News – Valve, represented by its unofficial spokesperson Wykrhm Reddy, recently announced the date and schedule for The International 2020. To our surprise, the biggest Dota 2 tournament in the world will be back sooner than we expected!

The next season takes place a few days earlier than this year’s TI. With their official Twitter handles, Wykrhm and Dota 2 announced the main event schedule of TI 2020: “Make sure to have some free time in your calendar next August! The International main event will run on Aug 18th-23rd”. The official poster featuring the city of Stockholm, Sweden was attached to the post.

About the venue

Sweden hosting The International 2020 marks the tournament’s return to Europe for the first time since the first-ever The International in 2011. Nevertheless, Europe remains one of the major regions in Dota 2. Our back-to-back TI champion and European powerhouse OG Esports proves that.

The main event graces the stage of Ericsson Globe, formerly known as the Stockholm Globe Arena, in August. It sits in Stockholm Globe City at Johanneshov district. There’s no doubt that the next TI would be bigger than ever as Ericsson Globe is the largest hemispherical building in the world. It can house 16,000 people on shows and concerts, but some areas in the arena can expand to cater to over 17,000 attendees.

TI 2020 teams

Europe is OG’s home country. Not that they need any home advantage, but the team might find it a lot easier to earn victories in their territory. The team hasn’t competed in any Dota Pro Circuit events yet, but it’s a normal routine for them. Last year, OG only joined the hunt for the highest DPC points in major events when Anathan “ana” Pham returned from a hiatus.

OG already missed ESL One Hamburg 2019 and MDL Chengdu Major—which were both dominated by TNC Predator. If the Philippine-based team can become more consistent in the next set of DPC matches, they might be the first team to secure a ticket to The International 2020.

Aside from OG and TNC, all eyes are on Vici Gaming, Invictus Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Gambit Esports, and Alliance. South Korean powerhouse PSG.LGD, who finished 3rd in the recent TI9, is struggling to earn victories due to the recent Outlanders update.
