Esports News – Since the dawn of time, the League of Legends competitive scene has been dominated by American and European teams. League after league, all competing regions are represented by the same teams hailing from the same countries. This setup leaves no doors open for other countries to enter professional esports. But that changes today as Ecuador, the most diverse Latin American country in the region, introduces the entry of Volcano Discover League in the competitive scene.
This is the first time Ecuador connects with an esports regional competitive scene. Meaning, it’s also Riot Games’ first time to discover highly skilled teams and players from the South American nation. The rise of Latin America in the esports scene is about to get started.
About Volcano Discover League
LVP, the largest esports organization in Spain, witnessed the success of National Leagues in Europe, North America, and Asia. Extending the territories promoting and competing at League of Legends, the organization urged Ecuador to establish its own tournament this year with the help of other sponsors like Discover, Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, and Multicines.
Ecuador’s Volcano Discover League is a LoL minor competition that features amateur teams and a $10,000 prize pool. The tournament serves as a bridge to the Copa América Latina Sur (CLS) Promotional Tournament and the 2020 Latin America League, a top-level LoL professional tournament in Hispanic America sponsored by Riot Games and Movistar.
Teams who successfully registered at Volcano Discover League’s official site are now concluding the four opening tournaments to gain their points. The final stages of the league for each batch will be on broadcast every Saturday from February 29. Live matches are set to take place at Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, while Live streaming is available on LVP Ecuador’s official channels on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch.
The winners of the Volcanic Discover League will soon compete against top players from other countries in the national circuit, such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico, and Colombia at the 2020 Copa América Latina Sur (CLS) Promotional Tournament. The aforementioned regions also holds similar minor competitions prior to the regional promotional tournament. The CLS will only choose the best team to represent South America for the League of Legends World Championship.
