BIG Creates History And Dominates CS:GO Global Rankings 2020 - Tipify

Esports News – The mighty Astralis—with their winning streak—no longer holds the title of best CS:GO team this month. German team BIG takes over the top spot in HLTV’s CS:GO global rankings for the first time ever.

HLTV updated the rankings this week following the conclusion of CS_Summit 6, the second Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament of 2020 for Europe and North America. BIG won the tournament by defeating Team Vitality in the grand finals 3-2, even though they started the competition with an average run in the lower bracket.

Notwithstanding the team’s success in CS_Summit 6, there’s no denying that BIG has reached its peak since June. With the same roster, the German team also won DreamHack Masters Spring Europe last June 16, where they beat G2 Esports in the grand finals. The team is responsible for placing G2 in the fifth position this month.

BIG’s current roster had overcome its losses in 2020 and a disappointing run in 2019. The lineup, led by Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz, has been competing together since January 1. New members were added to the group to welcome 2020. The revamp paid off when BIG won DreamHack Open Leipzig in January and finally booked a slot to compete in DreamHack Masters Spring Europe. Along the way, the also collected titles from minor online and offline CS:GO tournaments like Flashpoint Season 1: LAN Qualifier, #HomeSweetHome: Week 1, and #HomeSweetHome: Week 2.

BIG’s journey to the top is impressive. The team had gone up six positions since HLTV updated the rankings on June 15. But BIG should keep in mind that Team Vitality, the second-best team in the rankings, is just a few points away from coveting the number one spot.
