Esports News – Riot Games is one of the biggest esports tournament organizers in the world. And as one, the company is determined to unite all gamers and esports communities across the world through League of Legends (LoL), its most popular game to date.
Riot Games announced the creation of a new LoL Esports brand that will carry all professional LoL tournaments around the world—including the annual World Championship and college and high school leagues.
Under one umbrella, all 12 major leagues from participating regions will be handled by the new brand. These include tournaments from North America, Latin America, Europe, China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Taiwan/ Hong Kong/ Macau, Oceania, and CIS. The organization and all activities within these regional tournaments may remain the same, but they will now be part of the LoL Esports global banner. The three major international events—Mid Season Invitational, World Championship, and All-Star weekend—will serve as premier events under the banner.
John Needham, Global Head of Esports at Riot Games, announced the company’s new esports banner in a press release. Needham proudly explained that all their regional esports events, including the technology and entertainment behind them, are now officially under LoL Esports:
“We aspire to bring joy to billions of LoL Esports fans around the world…It starts with building a thriving global esports ecosystem supported by electrifying competition, sustainable growth, cutting-edge technology, bold entertainment, and a focus on integrity for our teams and the sport. From thrilling regional league competitions that captivate millions of fans across the globe to the iconic trophy lift at Worlds, it all now lives within LoL Esports.”
The goal of the umbrella brand, aside from streamlining the process of organizing esports events, is to come up with a centralized international brand that can help regional esports communities around the world connect with one another. This would make things easier for sponsors, team owners, third-party organizers, and other parties involved.
Instead of partnering with multiple companies, sponsors can now enter the League of Legends esports business by directly contacting the LoL Esports management in Riot. Sponsors are free to participate in international events or regional leagues.
Additionally, the umbrella brand will help fans identify official tournaments that are part of the Riot Games ecosystem. All other tournaments outside the banner are not considered as an elite-level competition.
